Song of the Week: One’s on the Way

Loretta Lynn
One’s on the Way
I don’t have much to say about this fabulous tune other than:
- contraception is a wonderful thing
- you can’t beat a bit of pedal steel guitar
- Loretta Lynn was the first lady of country.
‘One’s on the Way’, Loretta Lynn, 1971

Love the honky tonk piano at the end, underpinning her protest observations

Reminds me of Okie From Muskogee, at least lyrically “One’s on the way” retains enough subtle, gentle humour to stop it turning into some ‘good ol’ boy’ anthem though.

That’s a lovely picture of LL. I’ve recently bought a few high necked tops like that. They’re gorgeous.

Whoops!! It reminded me of that Simpsons episode where Homer becomes the manager of C&W singer Lurleen Lumpkin (voiced by Beverly D’Angelo)!! It sounds a bit like the song she sings about Homer!!
Have to say C&W is probably mt least favourite type of music tho…

Glad you liked it folks (well, at least I think you did in a reserved kind of way!).
Piley, I strongly suspect that the Lurleen Lumpkin episode was intended as pastiche of Loretta and her ‘tru-life misery’ genre of songs. And very good it was too.
I don’t mind the odd high-necked top myself RE. They can be very flattering on some people and on a more practical front, good in this weather. 3 degrees this morning. Brrrrrrr.
