Toilet tastes

loo_signs

At a meeting with an architect the other day, we were informed that men and women have different tastes when it comes to the interiors of public toilets and restrooms. Men prefer darker colours, wood textures and dimmer lights. Women like a light bright feel, lots of mirrors and pastels. Therefore, men and women’s toilets should have separate designs and colour schemes.

Our party of women was somewhat surprised by this and curious as to where this wisdom came from. It’s common knowledge, the architect arrogantly replied, and what would you know anyway – how many men and women’s loos have you been to in the same place to compare?

He got us there.

Since then I’ve found myself contemplating men’s toilets. So can someone tell me, are they really dark, woody and dim or is this just a load of bunk?

he seem’s a bit of an arrogant twonk I think these desires might be aspirations rather than regular occurences. I must admit other than the fittings and perhaps the colour of the walls I’d assumed they are the same. I did go into a wood and dark walls bog the other day but it was in victorian era gentlemans club so not good example.

bunk – total bunk. your architect must be a speciman from the mike brady school of architecture (mind you i was partial to that house, it was that sunken lounge!). i do rate having a urinal with a view however or rather when one literally pisses on plate glass overlooking water, iconic monuments etc.

It must be true. Men need surroundings reminiscent of the boardroom in order to facilitate powerful, satisfactory micturation. Whereas girlies need Beatrix Potter loo roll and lots of reflective surfaces to distract them from the ghastly facts of their own body waste.

Give me this bloke’s address, I’m going after him.

I’d say it was true. And I like to spend as little time in them as possible.

Such an interesting array of responses there… I love this blog writing thing sometimes.

I would like to be able to say, F-C, that women don’t particularly like to hang out in toilets either, but it seems to be an inevitable fact that we do spend longer in them. Usually queuing. And we don’t even get the added benefit of a urinal with a view as Sheepish mentions.

I’m going to recommend Beatrix Potter loo roll though.

Dunno really. Most of us have to live with the same crappy pale blue paint-job regardless. That said, when I have to use the the bogs on the floor downstairs, they always seem to be cleaner, brighter and less manky. Something to do with window positioningand available light.

From what I can remember, emergency use of the ladies shunky has offered up few differences in general decor.

  7. Cocktails Says:

Ah, but do you prefer the cleaner, brighter, less manky and obviously more ‘feminine’ loos downstairs?

Good to see you anyway, Ill Man. I was beginning to fear that your computer really had died and that you were no more.
