Theme From Lupin the 3rd ‘78 (Walther P99 Mix)

Inspired by the sunny skies, BBC4’s Hidden Japan season and I Should Be Working’s imminent trip to the land of cherry blossom worship, this week’s song comes from one of my favourite more obscure genres – ‘Japanese lounge-beat’.

The track itself is a remix of the theme tune to a Japanese manga series from the 70s called Lupin the 3rd. Despite having an album containing no less that five remixes of this same theme, I’ve never actually seen the series. I know someone who has though and they claim that its tales about the ‘world’s greatest thief’, Arsène Lupin III, are very good indeed.

But even if they’re wrong (and believe me, there is a good chance they are), you can’t deny that Mr Lupin III has funky taste in music.

    tip top tune any reason it’s a mp2? myphone/player doesn’t like them unfortunately

    Er, I thought it was an mp3 – the file extension is mp3 and I exported it from Audacity as an mp3 so I really can’t explain that one. If you like it though, I can try and re-export it for you over the weekend and see what happens…

    There’s a great mix (which I was playing on the way in this morning) by Number 9 just as fast and furious but with a French theme called ‘Quel Organ!’ -

    Thanks PM – looks good and a perfect way of practicing my French as well.

    The whole record that this comes off (readymade records – the remixes) is excellent, with loads more of this kind of stuff.
