Things to avoid
I’ve been keeping a lower profile than usual this week. This is because I have been having ‘one of those weeks’ (already!) and I have been attempting to follow the maxim ‘if you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say anything at all.’
But as you know I have no self-discipline. So here are some things to avoid if you can:
- The Rose cocktail (French version). This mix of dry vermouth, kirschwasser, gin and grenadine looks pretty, but in reality tastes rubbish.
- Being even remotely suprised by the government’s confidence that a new third runway at Heathrow is compatible with their commitment to lowering carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
- Tangerine Dream.
- Slimey sales managers. Today’s greeting was ‘The weather’s not gorgeous, but I know you are.’ Does my office look like a dodgy nightclub?
- Arguments about atheist ads on the side of buses.
- Deadlines.

I’ve just read number 4 a dozen times and I still can’t stop laughing. He might not have made your week, but indirectly he’s made mine.
Incontrovertible proof that what might seem like an evolutionary cul-de-sac still continues to produce its spawn. Astounding.

I’m glad it amused you! I’m just flabbergasted that anyone in this day and age thinks that those sentiments are going to win someone over, particularly a client that they don’t know very well. And he’s younger than me!!

I’d stick to pink gin and it being almost 5 and you having a grotty week I prescribe 6 before six!

Not a fan of pink gin either, BLTP but it’s definitely an evening for a cocktail. And I will be having one straight after I post my ‘outraged of Walthamstow’ letter to Gordon Brown on my way home. Writing a ‘your party is a disgrace’ letter to the PM is my top tip for venting after a difficult week!
And I’m sure he’ll be listening…

This has been some year so far for me. I’ve been having some car trouble so that’s put a damper on 2009 these first few weeks.

Hope it sorts itself out soon Keith. It’s not meant to be like this is it?!
