Paul Weller hair (part II)

Paul Weller

Like any good self-obsessed blogger, I find my site statistics fascinating. Apart from telling me useless facts like that the only people who read this blog live in South East England, the West of Scotland and the extreme East and West coasts of the States, I’d like to think that they offer an insight into what’s happening in the zietgeist, man.

And what’s happening in the zeitgeist is Paul Weller’s hair. Since I wrote this post about my unfortunate comments to a female colleague about her Paul Weller-esque hair, I have received at least 3 google search hits a day from people wanting to know more about the great man’s hair.

Search subjects have included:

  1. Paul Weller hair
  2. How to get a Paul Weller cut
  3. Where does Paul Weller get his hair cut?
  4. Who cuts Paul Weller’s hair?
  5. Does Paul Weller straighten his hair?
  6. Does Paul Weller talk about his hair?
  7. Paul Weller hairstyles for women (my favourite)

Sadly, this website isn’t going to answer any of those questions but it does suggest that not everyone regards his hair with amusement/disdain/sympathy.

Just thought you’d like to know.

Is this just a shameful attempt to get more Paul Weller devotees to your website and artificially bump up your numbers?!

I was thinking about you on the subway the other day actually, as I listened to my iPod. Have you ever had a Jellyfish song as your song of the week? Woefully underrated in my opinion - I was listening to The Ghost At Number One, but you could choose from any number of the tracks from Bellybutton or Spilt Milk.

I once caught a drumstick thrown by Jason (the drummer/vocalist of the band) at a gig at The Junction in Cambridge. Fascinating fact, I know…

No, it was a shameful attempt to confuse Paul Weller devotees who came across this post, rather than the other one…

It’s funny that you should mention Jellyfish as they are a comparatively recent discovery for me. I only knew a few songs by them till Mr Planet Mondo (whose site you should visit if you haven’t already - http://planetmondo.blogspot.com/ ) suggested that I check out the actual albums. And you’re both right, they’re very good (almost as good as Teenage Fanclub!). So, perhaps yes, a song of the week contender for the future… Although I am flattered that you might think that there is some methodology behind those posts - it is really what I happen to have on the stereo that week!

I do have a wee thing for Jellyfish. Joining A Fanclub is my favourite. Them and Redd Kross are always associated together in my mind for some reason.

I’m thinking of doing some ‘Paul Weller Hair Facts’ on my blog. Any suggestions?

  4. BLTP Says:

Anyway forget Jellyfish back to weller’s “barnet” I think it may be a “syrup” (see I’ve lived in that London so long I can use the “bingo” like an “emperor”).
I was watching it closely on the culture show last night and it was unnaturally still and unmoving. I must admit his new songs sound good, the one at the end of show had some lovely guitar on it.

Ill Man, yes, I always associated Jellyfish with Red Kross too. ‘Lady in the Front Row’ was a great single. What ever happened to them? And actually, the Zutons now remind me of them both… Maybe it’s the hair and the Cheap Trick kind of vibe. However, the big question is would they all have been more popular if they had their hair cut like Weller?

BTLP, Paul Weller’s new record, 22 Dreams, is great. I highly recommend it. Obviously, it would sound worse if his hair wasn’t as hip. Must be a pain being a mod and having to adhere to the mod look all the time. So much pressure. I saw the short Tues. version of the Culture Show and was less struck by the hair than by his obvious discomfit in being interviewed by Lauren Laverne.

  6. Cocktails Says:

And Dylan, forgot to ask - do you still have that drumstick carefully stashed away somewhere?!

  7. planet mondo Says:

Dylan and Ill Man If you’re into Jellyfish - check out The Sonic Executive Sessions songs - as sweet as honey.

I’ll keep hush about Weller’s hair - what with my rooster cut and that.

  8. Dylan Says:

Thanks Planet Mondo - I’ll take a listen later.

And Cocktails, I think that the drumstick is at my mum’s house somewhere. It once featured in Q magazine, when they did a feature on ‘things that people have caught at concerts’…

  9. Cocktails Says:

Mondo, there’s nothing wrong with a rooster cut. I like them. Anyway, you should be pleased that you’ve got such a popular cut!
