Procrastination
The original plan for working from home today was to fully dedicate myself to finishing writing a strategy that I’m working on – with no distractions, as I enthusiastically told my manager as I left the office last night.
Unfortunately, it’s a glorious day, the strategy’s not due for another few weeks and I’m not good with ‘non-urgent’ items…
So far today I have:
- cooked myself scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast
- watched Frasier
- done a load of washing
- read various blogs
- rewritten several pages on our organisations website (completely unrelated to the strategy)
- hung out the washing
- listened to albums by The Go-Betweens, Amadou & Mariam and Dennis Wilson
- gone to our local corner store to buy some milk
- enjoyed several cups of tea and coffee
- spent quality time with the neighbours cats in the garden over lunch
- proofread some work stuff (also completely unrelated to the strategy)
- danced around the loungeroom to old 7″s by Deacon Blue, Altered Images and The Chills
- edited and proofread the half of the strategy that I have actually already written
- written two additional paragraphs and updated a couple of figures
- made myself a martini
- posted this*
Result?!

this is why i can never be trusted to work at home by the time I had spent an hour making complicated sandwiches, paired socks, doen some light shopping, tune choosing it would 3pm which as we know is too early and too late to do anything important in life……

ISBW – there is something very civilised about doing washing whilst at work, not to mention practical. I could definitely get used to it.
Ill Man – I’m not sure about Pacfic Ocean Blue. Half of it is great, the other half a bit… overrated? In any case, I had to stop listening to it after a while as it was just depressing me. You might want to check out the Beach Boys debate taking place over at Planet Mondo’s – http://planetmondo.blogspot.com/2008/07/hello-sailor.html
BLTP – I am usually very motivated when it comes to working from home, very often I am way more productive than being in the office. Businesses should embrace the concept – it is just more efficient, you could argue, to do the washing when you don’t feel like doing any work rather than waste time getting annoyed by Comment is Free for example…

Welcome to my world Cocktails, I’m at home all day too and I love it! I’m the mistress of my own Casa, who’d want to change that?

RE – So that explains why your such a prolific blogger!! I do envy you – although I have say that I could miss the ‘leaving to do work’ and ‘returning home to have fun’ division of my life. Although I could potentially get used that!
