Classic Covers: Strings of Life

Christian Prommer’s Drumlesson
Strings of Life

I don’t know much about Christian Prommer other than that he is:

  1. German
  2. has done loads of remixes
  3. is signed to trendy label Sonar Kollektiv
  4. played a storming set at Cargo in London earlier this year
  5. has no shame in covering Derrick May techno classics like ‘Strings of Life’ in a groovy jazz style

Incredible - what a track could be straight out the ‘Jazz age’ fifties, (have you got any Chet Baker lined up at any point?).

And have you ever been to Octave 8 in Endell Street, round Covent Garden way? A fantastic venue with live Jazz most nights and a great bar too - you must try the honey vodka - delish.

This track is ace and the dance/techno covers worked really well live, not sure about a whole LP of it though.

I used to work in Covent Garden and think I went to Octave 8 then (although I suspect that it was called something else at the time). Should go back though, if not just for the honey vodka! Sticking to East London though, Cargo is definitely one of my favourite venues.

And Chet Baker - good suggestion!
