ISBW, I feel like I’ve failed ‘How to be a woman and talk about hair knowledgeably 101′ here. I never even noticed that Paul Weller had difficult hair (and I’m impressed that you’ve clearly thought about it a great deal). I just liked the mod cut. So much to learn…

Poor Paul Weller has very ‘difficult’ hair. It’s fine, straight and quite lank which can mean no end of problems in styling. Even the addition of copious amounts of ‘product’ won’t always help - it often just weighs the hair down even more. My concern is that, with the passing years and the troublesome hair and all, he’s starting to look like Mr Geoffrey from ‘Rainbow’.

And if someone told me my hair looked like Weller’s, I’d burst into tears.

Oh, I don’t have a thesis RE (unfortunately) - I just know that lots of mods like soul/60s jazz groove stuff.

I was over Paul Weller too actually until I kept hearing tracks off the new album, 22 Dreams, which were strangely good. So I took the plunge and got it last week and… it’s great! Definitely worth checking out.

Yes I am a soul fan. I’m interested in hearing your thesis (she says cheekily). Oh, hell, I just don’t like Paul Weller anymore, well nothing he’s done since Stanley Road, which I must say was a damn fine album and Wild Wood was the first CD I ever bought and I still love it.

Hello Expat Mum and welcome. Thanks for your perspective, which I should probably take heed of - women generally do not like their hair compared to men’s. Lesson learned after 33 years!

Having said that, I wrote an earlier post about my hair looking like Phil Oakey’s - http://cocktailsandrecords.net/blog/2008/01/24/phil-oakey-hair/ - which I don’t really have a problem with!

Hi- came via Brit Out of Water’s blog. I love Paul Weller. Saw him with the Jam and then with the Style Council, but I have to say I too would be utterly pissed off if anyone told me my hair looked like his. Especially as a female!

Roman Empress - I know what you mean about the Rod look, but Rod was a mod (although some might say that’s debatable). And what do you mean, you don’t like any kind of Mod music? You’re a soul fan!

BLTP - hee, hee. I think it’s the hair being a little too long at the back which is tipping him over.

In any case, call me stupid, but I’m still not sure where I went wrong with the haircut comment. She looks good. Next time, however, if I really want to insult her I’ll just say that she looks like a pineapple…
