Monkey!
I am currently reading the Chinese literary classic from the 16th century, Journey to the West, by Wu Ch’eng-en. The book is probably better known to people of a certain age in the form of 70s Japanese TV show Monkey which, along with The Goodies, seemed to be on constant rotation on the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) throughout the late 70s/ 80s.
A side effect of reading the book is that my head is constantly plagued by the deliriously catchy, funky theme tune. So I thought I’d share the joy (and the requisite Monkey wisdom – “But the phoenix can fly only when its feathers are grown”) with you.

ahh monkey no plot mad acting and it caused a thousand school boys to make noises if they finger and talk in stupid way. It was the law that all kids progs in 70/80’s should be subtitled. Heidi, dogtanian, the cities of gold, robinson crusoe, white hiorses, the flashing blade, it’s funny but we didn’t care that much kids shows nowaday seem to involve post nuclear war kinds with face paint or poeple being gunked..

Monkey, no plot?! Go on journey, get stopped by nasty demons, have long battle to a funky soundtrack, continue ad nauseum. now that’s what I call a plot!
I didn’t know there was any kids TV these days. I assumed kids graduated from Thomas the Tank Engine straight to Hollyoaks…
