Radiohead release decent song shock
This week marks the end of my 15 year long stalemate with every critics favourite band, Radiohead.
I actually heard a bit of a song by them that I kind of liked, Jigsaw Falling into Place, by accident on the radio. When I saw said single on 7″ the other day in Rough Trade, I kind of felt compelled to buy it to see if I really did kind of like it.
It’s the first thing I have ever owned by Radioheard and you know what, it’s quite good.
That now makes three Radiohead songs that I like (Jigsaw Falling into Place, Karma Police, Paranoid Android) which almost makes up for the misery of having Creep and accompanying awful album, Pablo Honey, soundtrack my first year of university.
Almost, but not quite.

You’re right, Pablo Honey was very poor.
Guess what? I listened to the Youtube clip a few times more and the stuff grew on me. Bought the album, and it’s ok……i still wish Thom Yorke would quit his mumbling vocal style and go back to the way he used to sing. I also wish the lyrics weren’t so inpenetrable and sixth formish.

Actually, it’s your fault that I bought the single. I heard the song and thought it was ok, but the clincher was your faith in them.
I don’t notice the 6th form lyrics as I generally don’t listen to words in songs - unless they are absolutely amazing - and Thom Yorke destroyed his lyrical reputation with me forever with Creep.

Faith in them? Didn’t I give them a bit of a slagging? =D
Creep was early, I’m prepared to forgive it. It also expressed something to me at the time (as a sullen, awkward teenager). His lyrics on OK Computer are excellent, beautiful in places. ‘Let Down’ gets me every time……….. He ditched that approach in favour of lyrical obfuscation, something I’ve found slightly disappointing ever since.

Long term faith! You at least bothered to listen to the new album and write about it. I wouldn’t normally give them and their attention seeking ways the time of day!
